VAGINAL DISCOMFORT ( causes and preventions)

 Vagina discomfort is the uncomfortable and sometimes painful feeling you have around your vagina. These feelings include itching, burning and irritation.

 CAUSES OF VAGINAL DISCOMFORT

  •  Chemical substances such as soaps, condoms, scented toilet papers, creams etc. can irritate the vagina. 
  • Yeast infection- this occurs when the yeast, Candida grows excessively in the vagina and vulva. Antibiotics, a weakened immune system, pregnancy and intercourse can make women get a yeast infection. 
  • Lichen sclerosis - this is a rare condition that causes thin white patches to form on the skin, especially the vulva. 
  • Bacterial vaginosis - when the wrong bacteria grows on the vagina, it can lead to an infection. Symptoms include discharge, inflammation, burning and a fishy-smelling odor. 
  • Vulvovaginintis - this is a common infection of the vagina and vulva. Symptoms may include, itching, increased vaginal discharge or discomfort while urinating. 
  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases such as, genital warts, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, chlamydia, genital herpes can cause vaginal discomfort. 
  • Menopause - a woman can feel discomfort in the vagina when she gets to her menopause.

 HOW TO PREVENT VAGINA DISCOMFORT 

  • Always keep your genital area clean and dry. Make sure you dry very well after urinating or having a bowel movement.
  •  Avoid scented toilet paper, scented bath soaps, bubble baths and vaginal douches. 
  • Stay away from sexual activity until your vagina heals because friction may worsen your problem. 
  • Allow more air to circulate through the area by wearing white cotton panties. 
  • Change your wet clothes as soon as possible because the moisture from them or heat can contribute to itchiness. 
  • For discomfort due to menopause, talk to your doctor about some tablets. 
  • Take yoghurt with live cultures anytime you take antibiotics to help prevent infections that often occur when you use antibiotics.
